Practice Nurses
The Practice Nurses are available by appointment. They can help you with minor injuries, dressings, injections, removal of stitches, ear syringing etc. Our nurses have undertaken specialist training and also offer family planning, diabetes, asthma and hypertension clinics. They can advise on and administer both travel and children’s immunisations. They are also involved in health promotion activities within the surgery and offer well person health checks, smear tests and general advice. They undertake special projects called audits to evaluate the services offered. We encourage our patients to have vaccinations for flu every year, this is usually available at the end of September or the beginning of October. Please ring early in September to make an appointment with our nurses for advice.
Nurse Alison is our lead nurse and supports patients with managing their diabetes (including running our group consultations), blood thinning medication, contraception, travel vaccines, coil removals and asthma. She has extra training in these areas. She is warm and welcoming in her approach.
Nurse Debbie also has extra training in diabetes and helps run our group consultations. She also looks after our patients on blood thinning medications, loves wound care and helping these get better. She is our lead nurse for cervical screening and does our travel vaccines too. She is approachable and welcoming.
Nurse Anu expertly cares for our children’s wellness through vaccination and child development advice. She is also able to start contraception and review contraceptive pills, give travel vaccines, and performs cervical screening. Nurse Anu is working towards becoming an independent prescriber, so enhancing her skills further.
Nurse Berveline also enjoys wound care and dressing changes. She is a smear taker and can also remove coils, and can advise on and give travel vaccines. She is able to put people at ease and is excellent in what she does.
Healthcare Assistants (including Phlebotomy)
The health care assistant is part of nursing team, assisting the nurses and also offering health checks to our newly registered patients. She also provides blood pressure checks, blood tests, B12 and Flu injections
Our wonderful healthcare assistants complement what the nursing staff offer:
Tracey is an expert blood taker, having done this for many years. Patients love having a chat with her, while having it done. She also supports Dr Bennett with her coil fitting appointments and can have informal chats with people about the coil as well as the menopause. She also performs new patient health checks, gives B12 injections, and is able to give vaccinations such as flu and pneumococcal.
Amanda supports with looking after our diabetic patients by performing their foot checks, blood pressure and weight. She also supports with our diabetic group consultations, having had extra training on motivational interviewing and exercise advice. Her caring nature means she is perfect to perform health checks on our patients with mental health diagnoses and learning disability. She is also our second blood taker.
